Woman, child health top priority for new health services director

Uplifting the standards of health of women and children in the city will be the area of prime concern for Dr Vanita Gupta, who took charge as Director Health Services, UT health department on Friday.

Talking about her main area of concern, she said “there are few thoughts in my mind and I have to yet discuss with the health secretary and plan things out. Her name was finalised by UT administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki after the interview of three senior PCMS doctors were conducted by UT adviser Parimal Rai on March 31. Dr Vanita’s term will be till October 2016.

She said that the task will be challenging enough and she has to do a lot in little time.

Talking about her main area of concern, she said “there are few thoughts in my mind and I have to yet discuss with the health secretary and plan things out. But I would like if we can start cancer screening programme, as recently a survey has shown high incidence of breast cancer among women.”

She added, “We could also look into children suffering from nephritis and anaemia is a major problem among young girls. From my previous assignments, I have seen that blood banks have had to defer girls from donating blood. So, we would start a project where in iron tablets are given to young girls.”
