Ranchi boy gets 88th rank in JEE Advanced to top Jharkhand
Around 700 students from Jharkhand cleared the JEE Advanced and qualified for a berth in IIT or its associate colleges, claimed leading coaching institutes in the state.
Ranchi boy R Sudarshanan topped in Jharkhand by clinching the 88th All India Rank (AIR) in the JEE Advanced results declared on Sunday.
Sudarshanan completed his schooling from Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM) Shayamli, and had been preparing for the entrance examination at FIIT JEE since he was Class 7.
At a time when smart phones and tablets are a craze among youngsters in India, Sudarshanan doesn’t have even a basic mobile handset.
“I still do not have a mobile phone since it may have caused distractions. However, I may get one now,” he said.
Around 700 students from Jharkhand cleared the JEE Advanced and qualified for a berth in one of the IITs or its associate colleges, claimed leading coaching institutes in the state.
Around 2,000 students from Jharkhand cleared the JEE Mains, the result of which was declared on April 27, and appeared for the JEE Advanced on May 22.
Bokaro and Dhanbad performed well with around 150 students from each district succeeding in the test. Meanwhile, around 200 students from Ranchi and 100 from Jamshedpur qualified in the entrance exam, said sources from coaching institutes such as FIIT-JEE, Brilliant Tutorials and Study Circle.
At least six students from Jharkhand secured ranks under 500 in the JEE Advanced results, officials from FIIT JEE said.
The state topper Sudarshanan aspires to pursue engineering in Computer Science from either IIT-Delhi or Mumbai and go for research work in the field of computer science. The 18-year-old passed Class 12 under CBSE this year and secured 94.6% marks.
Sudarshanan attributes his success to his teachers, parents and the hard work he had put in for the past couple of years.
While several IITians dream of working abroad, this Ranchi boy wants to make a career in India.
“I may go to another country for studies, but would return to India and work here,” said the state topper.
His father A Rajasekaran works as an engineer in MECON while mother PV Vasataraman is a teacher in Kairali School, Ranchi.
FIIT JEE centre head Rajesh Kumar Karn said the state’s performance was improving every year in the entrance examinations and they were bagging better ranks.
Last year, the state topper from Jharkhand had secured 147th all India rank.
