Police said the accused, Sarasu, put her husband’s organ in her purse and boarded a bus to her parents’ residence in Gudiyattam near Vellore. She was arrested en route.

A woman bobbitised her husband following a squabble over an alleged extramarital affair in Chennai on Wednesday night, and then made off with the severed organ.

Police said the accused, Sarasu, put her husband’s penis in her purse and boarded a bus to her parents’ residence in Gudiyattam near Vellore. However, the woman was arrested before she could reach her destination. “We arrested the accused while she was on her way to her parents’ house. She had the severed organ in her possession,” a police inspector said.

Sarasu had married Jagadeesan 14 years ago, and the two had four children. However, they had been living separately for a few months now.

On Wednesday, their eldest son requested Sarasu to stay the night at Jagadeesan’s place because it was his birthday. However, a quarrel broke out when her husband returned home drunk that night.

Jagadeesan reportedly told Sarasu that he was planning to marry again because she had become old. This led the woman to believe that he was having an extramarital affair.

An enraged Sarasu waited for her husband to fall asleep, following which she cut his penis off with a knife. Even as Jagadeesan woke up crying in pain, she put the severed organ in her purse and walked out of the house – shutting the doors behind her.

Jagadeesan was admitted to a local hospital by neighbours.
