The Indian-Swiss tennis power partnership of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis beat French third seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic to clinch the women’s doubles title of the Sydney International on Friday.
The top seeds won 1-6, 7-5, 10-5 to clinch their 30th consecutive win in a row.
The top seeds are going on the longest winning streak in women’s doubles since 1994.
The Indo-Swiss duo had defeated Romanian Raluca Olaru and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan to enter the final of the Sydney International.
They had eclipsed the record set by Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, who won 28 consecutive matches in 1994 on Thursday.
The win was viewed by the ecstatic pair as an ideal preparation for their Australian Open ambitions, starting next week, which will be their third straight Grand Slam triumph should they win it, following on from last year’s successes at Wimbledon and the US Open.
