Happy birthday Ekta Kapoor: 6 things to remind you why she is a big deal
Ekta Kapoor has given a lot to the entertainment industry and it’s time we thanked her for it.
Ekta Kapoor of House Balaji, Mother of flashbacks, Breaker of TRP records and the Queen of the returning dead turns 40 today. She is now a gigantic name in the entertainment industry but is often criticised and trolled for treating death as a joke, making weddings a weekly ritual and living in a world where plastic surgery is affordable to all.

However, we often fail to look at the good things that make her contribution to the world of entertainment immense. And to celebrate her birthday, we decided to remind you of all the good things that were a gift to us by Ekta. Here they are:
1. Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do
In a world where TV serials would run for milleniums at end, Ekta Kapoor made a finite series with this one. Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do has Iqbal Khan and Mona Singh in the lead and played for about two months on our TV screens. If only she was on the same page with the rest of her shows.
2. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
Running for almost a decade, this serial was a part of our daily lives once. Tulsi Virani died, Tulsi Virani was alive again, Tulsi Virani got a plastic surgery, Tulsi Virani didn’t like her new face, Tulsi Virani got her old face back. How we digested all of that is still a mystery. However, the same Tulsi Virani stormed the parliament with her impeccable speech recently. So thanks Ekta for introducing us to our Human Resource Development Minister all those years ago.
3.Pavitra Rishta
Pavitra Rishta was another sad tale of love’s labour lost but the fact that we earned ourselves a Sushant Singh Rajput for putting up with this torturous show mor than makes up for it.
4.Hum Paanch
One of the longest running comedy shows of the country was also gift by her. Ekta and a comedy series sound like an oxymoron but she did make us laugh. Not just a little bit but a lot. We want to see the humorous Ekta again.

5.Love Sex Aur Dhokha
Ekta Kapoor, along with Dibakar Banerjee, gave the Indian audience a taste for something new. After the weekly dose of rom-com, drama or religious tales, Indian audience was served with a refreshing and bold concept. Ekta Kapoor paved the way for bolder films and we can’t be more grateful to her.
6.Gumrah: End of Innocence
Did you know that Balaji Telefilms produced Gumrah? Something realistic and so different from her fancy world of saas-bahu tales. Of course the parents now know that we smoke, drink, party and watch porn and they have only Ekta to thank for it.
