Ajay Devgn’s football biopic will see South Indian actor Keerthy Suresh make her Bollywood debut
South Indian actor Keerthy Suresh will make her Bollywood debut with Ajay Devgn’s biopic on footballer Syed Abdul Rahim.
It is the season of biopics in Bollywood; films like Sanju, Soorma and Bal Thackeray are cases in point. It is now the turn of Ajay Devgn to make one; he will soon be seen playing footballer Syed Abdul Rahim in an untitled film. South Indian actor Keerthy Suresh will mark her Bollywood debut as the female lead.
A report in Mumbai Mirror said, Syed Abdul Rahim biopic will be directed by Badhaai Ho director Amit Sharma and it is expected to go on the floors in June. It will chronicle the Indian football team’s glory from 1950 to 1963.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted about it. He wrote: “IT’S OFFICIAL... Keerthy Suresh - a leading name in South Indian films - to make her Hindi film debut opposite Ajay Devgn... #BadhaaiHo director Amit Sharma will direct... Produced by Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta.”
It may be recalled that Keerthy is among the most sought-after female actors down south. Last year, she delivered, what would definitely count as one of her best performances so far, a hit with Mahanati (2018), a biopic on legendary south Indian actor Savitri.
Meanwhile, Ajay has been busy shooting for his period drama Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior, based on the life of a Maratha commander Tanaji Malusare, celebrated for his role in the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 AD.
In July 2017, the film’s director Om Raut had shared the first look of the film. The poster showed the outline of Tanaaji, Ajay’s face is in the dark and hence not visible. Towards the end of 2018, he shared a fresh picture from the film, this time, Ajay’s face is partially covered, but we know it is him.
The picture shows Ajay and his men jumping and descending through what looks like a gorge in the mountains with the help of thick ropes.
