Alia Bhatt will play a woman in search for truth, aided by Sanjay Dutt’s character in Sadak 2. The film will mark Mahesh Bhatt’s return to direction after 20 years.

Actor Alia Bhatt has five big projects in her kitty right now and one of them is her father and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2. So far, little was known about this sequel to hit 1991 film starring Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt, but a report in Mumbai Mirror has revealed details from the plot.

A source close to the film told the daily that Alia’s character sets out to unmask a godman in the film. “Alia’s character is out to expose a fake guru who runs an ashram. She is accompanied by Sanjay’s (Dutt) character in this journey. Sanjay has already started prep with Bhatt saab. They start shooting in a fortnight,” said the source.

When contacted about the film, Mahesh Bhatt said the film is much more than this. “Sadak 2 is about love, loss and redemption. To simplify a heartfelt narrative like this is to falsify it. You would be trivialising the essence of the film by suggesting that Sadak is just this,” he said. He also added that while Gulshan Grover has a part in the film, he is not playing the godman. “We have a great actor playing that part,” Bhatt said. He added that he will reveal the actor’s name when he signs the contract.

Sadak 2 also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, who was recently seen with Alia in Karan Johar’s Kalank. The film failed at the box office.

Alia recently spoke about working with her father on the movie. She said that even though she understands his sensibilities as a father, working with him in a professional set-up would be a different “ball game”. “It will never be easy as I don’t know him as a director, I know him as a dad. Working with him as a director will be a different ball game altogether. I am excited. It is an exciting film,” Alia told PTI. “My father is very silent on most of the things. But I still don’t know how he will be on the sets,” she added. Alia revealed it was the original star of Sadak, Sanjay Dutt, who convinced Bhatt to return to the director’s chair. Bhatt’s last directorial was 1999 film Kartoos.

“Sanju pushed him this time. I did not. He is my father and he is always unpredictable. He has done the most unpredictable thing of directing a film after a long time,” she said. Alia said the film takes forward the story of Ravi and Pooja and she will be a new addition to the story along with Aditya. Sadak 2 is scheduled to hit the screens on March 25, next year.
