Bollywood actors such as Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt, among others, have reacted to Deepika Padukone’s first look from Chhapaak. The most empowering comment, however, came from real-life acid attack survivor Rangoli Chandel.
Bollywood stars such as Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal have reacted enthusiastically to Deepika Padukone’s first look picture from the upcoming film Chhapaak. Deepika plays a character named Malti, based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
The actor had shared the picture on Monday, announcing the film’s release date and the commencement of filming. She called Malti, ‘a character that will stay with me forever’. The most empowering reaction, however, came from actor Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel. “No matter how unfair and unjust the world is we musn’t reflect what we hate, this is commendable on @deepikapadukone and @meghnagulzar part, being an acid attack survivor I pledge to be their biggest cheerleader #Chhapaak,” she wrote.
Reacting to the image, several actors took to social media. Alia, who worked with Chhapaak director Meghna Gulzar on Raazi, replied to Deepika’s tweet with applause emojis. Vicky Kaushal, who was rumoured to be in the running opposite Deepika in Padmaavat, wrote, “How amazing is this! Can’t wait already. Best wishes to Team.”
“Now THATSSS an important film!!!! Amazeeee,” wrote Parineeti Chopra. Parineeti’s frequent co-star, Arjun Kapoor called the look ‘beautiful’. He wrote, “@deepikapadukone @meghnagulzar & the entire team deserve to be given credit for this remarkably accurate visual portrayal.”
Actor Rajkummar Rao wrote, “This is brilliant. Can’t wait to see you as #Malti. It’s path breaking. More power to you Deepika.”
Here are all the reactions:
Meanwhile, several actors replied to Deepika’s Instagram post in the comments section. Priyanka Chopra called the look ‘amazing’ while Abhishek Bachchan wrote that it was ‘brilliant’.
Meghna had teased fans that they’d be seen a whole new Deepika in the film. “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika,” the filmmaker said at a Chennai event. “There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.”
Chhapaak also stars Vikrant Massey and is slated for a January 10, 2020 release. This is Deepika’s first film since her blockbuster Padmaavat.
