Gold vs Satyameva Jayate box office: Akshay Kumar film heads to Rs 100 cr club, John Abraham film earns Rs 75 cr
Gold box office collection is sprinting towards Rs 100 crore mark as John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate is already a hit.
It is a box office clash that has paid off for both the films. Both Satyameva Jayate and Gold box office collections have stayed strong since their release and Akshay Kumar and Satyameva Jayate appear to have hit the bull’s eye.
Akshay’s sports drama is heading towards the Rs 100-crore club having earned an estimated Rs 88.9 crore at the box office since its release on Independence Day. According to trade aggregator Bollywood Hungama, Gold started its box office journey with Rs 25.25 crore on opening day, it saw a dip on Thursday with Rs 8.10 crore collection, it earned Rs 10.10 crore on Friday, Rs 12.3 crore on Saturday, Rs 15.55 crore on Sunday, Rs 4 crore on Monday, Rs 4 crore on Tuesday, Rs 6 crore on Wednesday and Rs 3.6 crore on Thursday.
The film, directed by Reema Kagti, also stars Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Kunal Kapoor. While the film has shown decent performance, a large part of its business came with the huge crowds driven in by the Independence Day holiday on Wednesday. The film failed to match its earnings over the weekend.
The same is true for John Abraham’s Satymeva Jayate that has earned Rs 75.09 crore in nine days. The film is a hit but the major contributor remains the Independence Day box office collection of Rs 20.52 crore. It followed it up with Rs 7.92 crore on Thursday, Rs 9.18 crore on Friday, Rs 9.03 crore on Saturday, Rs 10.26 crore on Sunday, Rs 3.76 crore on Monday, Rs 3.79 crore on Tuesday, Rs 6.67 crore on Wednesday and Rs 3.96 crore on second Thursday of release.
While Gold dominated the urban markets in Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Mysore and West Bengal, John’s film worked better in Bihar and Central India.
