It was a perfect start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 campaign for Chennai Super Kings as they completely outplayed Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening match in Chennai on Saturday.

Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir were the top performers with the ball as they took three wickets each to bowl out RCB for just 70. On a pitch that assisted the slower bowlers, CSK completely controlled the game and despite having huge names like Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers, RCB were unable to get going on the day.

With the bat, Ambati Rayudu top-scored with 28 while Suresh Raina and Kedar Jadhav made 19 and 13 respectively. Shane Watson missed out as he was dismissed for a duck by Yuzvendra Chahal.

However, that is all in the past and the defending champions will be looking to continue their winning run when they take on Delhi Capitals in their second game. With a win under their belt, CSK will be quite confident but the Capitals will be no pushovers as they rode Rishabh Pant’s explosive innings to win their first game against Mumbai Indians.

Keeping the previous performance in mind, CSK will not be tampering much with their winning combination. However, they can opt for South Africa skipper Faf Du Plessis in place of pacer Shardul Thakur. Spin was the main weapon for them in the opening match and as a result, they played just three foreign players on Saturday.

However, the pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla will be quite dry and as a result, they may retain all of their pace options and as a result, Faf will have to wait a bit longer to make his presence felt in this year’s IPL.

“It (pitch) is reasonably dry and the fact that we use spinners as a tactic will be under consideration. One of the great challenges is to get the combination right. We will spend a lot of time talking to MS and be as accurate as we can with our tactic. We are pretty conservative with our combination in Chennai but each time we move away from Chennai, it depends on combination,” coach Stephen Fleming said ahead of the encounter.

Chennai Super Kings Predicted XI: Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson,Suresh Raina, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur.
