The board of studies member also confirmed that at least one of the questions was beyond the prescribed curriculum. Around 3,000 students appeared for the paper.

In their letter, the management council members said several students had complained to them about the questions. “[The V-C] is requested to inquire the matter and allot full marks to students for these questions. There should be action against the teachers who have set the question paper,” read the letter.

The university said it is probing the complaint. “We have sought a response from the paper setter,” said Suresh Ukarande, in-charge dean, science and technology.

A member of the board of studies said that while the students claimed three questions to be out-of-syllabus, at least one of the questions, Q1 (a), is indeed from the previous curriculum. “The question is not in the current curriculum, though knowledge of this topic is one of the pre-requisites for studying the syllabus,” he said.
