“All the four sides of our society are waterlogged, exposing us to the risk of catching such diseases as malaria and chikungunya,” said Vikas Bansal, general secretary, RWA, Taksila Heights.

Overflowing sewage and contamination of drinking water are posing a health hazard to residents of Taksila Heights in Sector 37C. They say that despite repeated requests, civic authorities have not adhered to this problem. The condominium is spread across 11 acres and 596 apartments have been constructed, out of which 425 families have shifted to the complex.

The sector does not have main sewage lines laid yet and thousands of residents shifted to the Sector over the last three years.

Residents of the society are faced with extensive waterlogging due to which chances of mosquito-borne diseases such as chikungunya and malaria remain high. Last year, nine residents of the society came down with chikungunya. Residents said they are worried as the sewer lines are not connected to main lines and sewage is overflowing outside the complex.

“We are using tankers to dispose of the sewage. Shockingly, the authorities have not laid the pipelines yet. We have been suffering for last two years, and yet, no one is bothered,” Vineet Bansal, a resident, said.

“All the four sides of our society are waterlogged, exposing us to the risk of catching such diseases as malaria and chikungunya,” Vikas Bansal, general secretary, residents’ welfare association (RWA), Taksila Heights, said.

The residents alleged that they are forced to bear the stench of sewage water, which has spilled on to the society compound.

Residents said they have written to the authorities on several occasions, but they seem have become immune to their pleas as no action has been taken to lay the sewer line despite repeated reminders.“Already, sewage water has started contaminating the potable water supply, on our ground floor. We all are dependent on packaged drinking water. But, how long can we go on like this?” Rajat Prashar, a resident, said.

“Years have passed since we moved in, but none of the essential services have been provided to us yet,” Jagdish Kumar, a resident, said.

However, officials of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) formerly the Haryana urban development authority (Huda), said that work on laying the sewage pipeline is over and the lines are connected to the houses. However, the developer has to lay their own pipelines connecting ours.

“I will visit the society and inspect the spillage of sewage water,” Rameshwar Das, executive engineer, HSVP, said.

Despite repeated attempts, the developer couldn’t be reached for comments on the issue.
