Parents, coaches and neighbours cheering on, players grinding it out on the field and some intense football action, the league matches of the biggest neighbourhood football tournament in Delhi-NCR – SARE Homes HT GIFA, kicked off this weekend, had it all.

The tournament that had started off with a registration of 2500 teams was left with only the top 346 teams competing in the league matches, after the pre-qualifier matches and wild card entry voting where over 1.96 lakh votes were posted.

The league matches kicked off at two venues; Commonwealth Games Sports Complex, Akshardham, where teams from Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad battled it out on the field and Ansal University, Gurgaon where the Gurgaon teams competed for the top spot. After witnessing some nail-biting football action at both venues, the top 128 teams qualified for the round of league matches.

Some exceptional performances from teams were also witnessed on field including a match between Blue balls of Destiny v. Palms FC where Palms FC scored 10 goals without any goal against them. Another team, JBT Strikers scored a perfect 10 against Huligans United FC without conceding a single goal.

“The team feels great after their win and will be practicing hard for their next match. Their hard work really paid off during the match. Tournaments like these really brings communities and people together, where parents of the players didn’t really know each before GIFA, but it has brought all of us together and we interact with each other on a daily basis.” Said Vikram Achanta, father of Rohan Achanta from the team, Perfect 10 located at Vasant Kunj.

Keeping the crowd entertained and the mood light during the matches were Emcee Ajay Sehrawat at the Gurgaon Venue and Emcee Kanishk Tyagi at the Delhi Venue who not only interacted with the audience but also held contests in between matches including dribbling, around the world and shoot a goal challenge to engage both players and their supporters.

Winning teams also shook a leg after their win to the tunes of the GIFA anthem and latest chartbusters including Despacito and DJ Bravo’s Champion victory song. There was also a friendly parents match organized on 1st October at CWG Village by SARE Homes.

Catch all the action live at the CWG Sports Complex in the coming weekend on October 7 and 8. We’re all set for a thrilling round of final matches as well as the closing ceremony on the evening of 8th October, where GIFA Champions will be crowned along with recognizing Most Valuable Players and Golden Boot award for maximum goal-scorers in the tournament.
