Shweta Sharma said she joined the AAP because she was impressed by Arvind Kejriwal who, according to her, has done wonderful work to end corruption in Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday decided to field Shweta Sharma, a former professor, from the Gautam Budh Nagar parliamentary constituency seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sharma, a resident of Greater Noida’s Sector Beta-ii, taught environmental science at an engineering and technical institute in Greater Noida.

“I joined the AAP because I am impressed by Arvind Kejriwal who has done wonderful work to end corruption in Delhi. The Kejriwal government has done inspiring work in the health and education sectors. I have decided to join politics and fight corruption here the way the AAP has done in Delhi. I am hopeful of winning this seat and work for all sections of the society, particularly for women empowerment,” said Sharma, who believes that the Narendra Modi government has failed to take adequate steps to empower women.

In 2014, the AAP had fielded KP Singh, a businessman, from the Gautam Budh Nagar seat. Singh had secured 32,358 votes for the party.

Sharma and her supporters decided that they will start their canvassing for the Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha seat from Monday, targeting all five parliamentary segments – Noida, Dadri, Jewar, Sikandrabad and Khurja.

She said she has decided to work for farmers, homebuyers, teachers, as well as other communities if voted to power in the 2019 general elections.

“I have faced harassment during my tenure as an assistant professor. I feel that many working women face such kind of harassment at their work place. I had even filed an FIR against a man, who harassed me, to seek justice. I have joined politics and decided to fight elections because I want to work for the betterment of women. I want to work to end all kinds of corruption from the system and in society,” Sharma said.

Sharma did her graduation from Sofia College in Ajmer of Rajasthan before doing an MBA from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer.

Meanwhile, the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), a political party formed by Shivpal Singh Yadav after leaving the Samajwadi Party, has fielded Jitendra Singh Gujar from the Gautam Budh Nagar seat. Gujar will file his nomination on Monday. Earlier, the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) had fielded Sanjay Khan.

“We have replaced the nominee from this seat because Jitendra Gujar will be able to garner huge support from his community as well as Muslims. We are going to win this seat,” Sonu Chaudhary, spokesperson of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) for Noida, said.
