Lok Sabha Elections 2019: In Uttarakhand, BJP’s Nishank is a PhD, 4 Congress nominees have law degrees

While former Uttarakhand chief minister and BJP’s Haridwar candidate Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has a doctorate in Literature, two of the party candidates are school pass outs.

Out of 10 candidates nominated by both the BJP and Congress for the five Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttarakhand, BJP candidate from Haridwar Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ is the most qualified with an honorary Ph.D in Literature apart from a masters degree from HNB Garhwal University.

BJP candidate in Tehri Garhwal constituency Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah and Almora constituency candidate Ajay Tamta are the least educated with just intermediate degrees.

Tirath Singh Rawat, BJP candidate for Pauri Garhwal constituency , has a master’s degree in sociology from HNB Garhwal University.

The educational qualification of Ajay Bhatt, who is contesting from the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency on a BJP ticket, could not be accessed till the filing of this report.

Majority of Congress candidates in the state are law graduates with an LLB degree. Congress candidate from Almora Pradeep Tamta has completed bachelor’s in education along with a master’s in arts and an LLB degree, all from Kumaun University.

The party’s candidates from Haridwar, Ambrish Kumar; state party president Pritam Singh, who is contesting from Tehri Garhwal, and former chief minister and AICC general secretary Harish Rawat contesting from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, all hold law degrees.

Congress’ candidate from Pauri Lok Sabha constituency Manish Khanduri completed his MBA from the Kelogg School of Management from the US in 2005 and has 22 years of experience in journalism and marketing.

Independent candidate Gopal Mani, contesting from Tehri Garhwal constituency, holds a master’s degree in Sahitya Acharya from Sri Vishwanath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya in Uttarkashi.
