Lucknow: Biggest city crossing to be named after Atal

In all probability, the main Hazratganj crossing is likely to be named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as the executive committee of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, in a meeting on Friday, gave power to mayor Sanyukta Bhatia to name the biggest crossing of the city after Vajpayee.

In all probability, the main Hazratganj crossing is likely to be named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as the executive committee of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), in a meeting on Friday, gave power to mayor Sanyukta Bhatia to name the biggest crossing of the city after Vajpayee .

Cutting across party lines, all executive committee members also agreed to name Ismailganj Girls’ Degree College of the LMC as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Degree College.

The LMC will prepare a plaque of 51 poems written by Vajpayee in his book ‘Meri Ikyawan Kavitayein’. This plaque would be placed in Atal Smriti Upvan for which the mayor would select land. The park would be one of the biggest in the city.

Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia said, “The LMC has planned a 300-bed Ayush hospital at Ghaila. This hospital would be set up on LMC land and will be constructed by the Ayush department. It will be named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”



The road from Avadh Hospital in Singar Nagar to Dubagga crossing and the three housing schemes of LMC in Para would also be named after the former prime minister.

Atal Training Programme for the training of corporators is also on cards..

Other decisions

The 10% rebate on house tax payment has been extended till September 30. The extension was a sequel to demand of most of the executive committee members, said mayor Sanyukta Bhatia.

Also, from coming October 2, residents would be able to apply for online mutation.

All the payments by LMC from September 1 would be in the form of E payment directly into the account, the executive committee decided.

A portal would be started for the solution of problems discussed on Lok Mangal Diwas organized by LMC every Tuesday. The residents would be able to see the status of their complaints on the portal and will not be required to visit the LMC office.

For the solution of street lights problems, the company performing the work of installing and maintaining street lights has been told to appoint zone wise supervisors to attend the complaints.

A campaign to remove illegal hoardings and banners would be started next week.

All those contractors who have bagged tenders and not started the work on the projects would be black listed.

Carcasses of dead animals would be lifted at night too. For this, a special vehicle has been purchased and special staff has been hired to perform the work during night hours.

The dependents of martyrs who die unmarried would be given rebate in house tax.

The Ashiana power house crossing would be named as Tirthankar Swami crossing.
