Fire breaks out in Mumbai’s GST Bhavan, none hurt

The Mumbai fire brigade is carrying out a search operation of the building alongside the fire fighting operations to check if there are any trapped persons in the building.

A major fire broke out on the eighth floor of GST Bhavan at Mazgaon in Byculla on Monday, officials said. There are no reports of any casualties in the incident so far.

The fire brigade has pressed 16 fire engines and 9 water tankers to the spot. The intensity of the fire escalated quickly to level 4 (major) from Level 3 within 45 minutes since it broke out. According to the fire brigade standard operating procedure, a Level 4 fire is considered a massive one.

Since the fire is on the 8th floor, fire brigade’s two turn table ladders are also present at the spot.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, who also holds the Finance portfolio rushed to the GST Bhavan, hurriedly left for the incident spot from a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) meeting chaired by NCP leader Sharad Pawar at YB Chavan Centre in South Mumbai.
