The accused was already facing a court trial for allegedly murdering one of his cousins.
Roop Singh, a resident of Bisada village in Dadri, was arrested by the police under Indian Penal Code Section 307 for allegedly shooting his 78-year-old father Hem Singh. According to police, Roop Singh then lodged a police complaint, accusing his cousin cousin Kushal Pal Singh of trying to kill Hem Singh.
“Roop Singh had approached us on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday saying that around 12.30pm, his cousin Kushal entered their house, created a ruckus and tried to kill his father with a countrymade pistol. However, during the investigation, Roop Singh’s neighbours told us that they did not hear any gunshot or a ruckus from his house. We questioned Roop Singh and he admitted that he it was he who shot his father in the thigh,” KK Rana, station house officer, Jarcha police station, said.
Hem Singh was rushed to a private hospital in Dadri around 1am for immediate medical attention. His his condition is stable, police said.
According to police, Roop Singh wanted to frame Kushal as he was facing a court trial for the murder of Manoj Singh, Kushal’s brother, in 2016.
“Roop Singh had a court hearing on Thursday and he wanted to frame his cousin in the attempt to murder case so that it would weaken the ongoing case against him. However, Kushal had lodged another complaint a week ago stating that Roop Singh had assaulted him and verbally abused him in order to deter him from continuing with the court case,” Rana said.
