3 injured, 10 vehicles vandalised after gang attacks residents in Pune

A similar incident was reported on the night of Ambedkar Jayanti from an area approximately 2km from the where the gang struck on Tuesday. Multiple vehicles were vandalised in the attack in Kharalwadi area of Pimpri.

At least three persons were injured and over 10 vehicles vandalised by a group of men in Nehrunagar area of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the late hours of Tuesday. Police officials were deployed at night to ensure that the situation was under control in the area.  

The complaint in the incident was filed by Ganesh Neharkar, 39, a resident of Pimpri, who was walking back home with his sister, when the incident happened. Along with Neharkar, at least two other persons were injured in the attack. The complainant was attacked with a sickle-like weapon by one of the accused. Neharkar sustained a gash on his back (right shoulder).

From the group of seven to eight persons, three were identified as Dinesh Gaikwad, Rinku alias Kiran Pitekar and Narayan Shinde. A case under Sections 307, 143, 147, 148, 149, 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC); along with Section 37(1)135 of the Bombay Police Act; Section 4(25) of the Arms Act and Sections 3 and 7 of the Criminal Amendment Act, was registered against seven to eight people at the Pimpri police station. 

A similar case was reported on the night of Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14, 2018) from an area approximately 2km from the place where the incident took place on Tuesday. Multiple vehicles were vandalised in Kharalwadi area of Pimpri. Among the 25 people booked in the case, few were minors. However, the police found no relation between the accused in the two cases.

“These men were in the area searching for a man with whom they had been in a fight earlier. We are yet to identify him. The complainant and the other injured people were simply in the area and was caught in the crossfire. We are on a lookout for the accused,” said police inspector (crime) Masaji Kale of Pimpri police station who is  investigating the story.

Vandalism at Dange chowk

In another incident, six men were booked for attacking a man and vandalising two vehicles near Kala Khadak Vasahat on the highway road near Dange chowk in Wakad at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday. One of the accused, identified as Sanjay Pawar, along with several others, started following Ashish Ubale, 25, who was driving a car, and his friend Amit Bhalerao, who was riding a motorcycle. Ubale and Pawar had been involved in an altercation earlier. Pawar and the other men damaged the two vehicles and threatened to kill Ubale and his family members.  

A case under Sections 143, 147, 148, 427, 504, 506 of IPC; Section 37(1)(2)135 of the Bombay Police Act and Section 4(25) of the Arms Act was registered against the six people at the Wakad police station.
