Is Xiaomi Redmi 4 on the way? Here is all you need to know
Chinese handset-maker Xiaomi has put out a teaser to inform consumers that it may launch a new variant of the popular Redmi 4 series soon. The company had launched the Xiaomi Redmi 4A last month post the launch of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.
Xiaomi is at it again and none other than India vice president Manu Jain is teasing the launch of a new phone on Twitter.
Jain took to his twitter handle to announce the teaser. “Announcing the launch of a new Redmi phone! This will be the 2nd BIG announcement of the month ☺️ Coming soon. Stay tuned #PowerInYourHand,” he tweeted.
The company has already launched the Xiaomi Redmi 4A and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 in India last month at starting prices of Rs 5,999 and Rs 9,999 respectively. The company also claimed to have sold more phones than ever. Jain had confirmed that successor to Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime will come to India soon.
In terms of specifications, the Redmi 4 features a 5-inch HD display along with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The phone is powered by the 1.4Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505. In terms of storage, the smartphone features 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
Redmi 4 has a metal unibody design and curved 2.5D glass on the front. In terms of camera, there is a 13MP sensor at the rear end with PDAF, flash and the selfie shooter is of 5MP. The phone is fueled by a 4100 mAh lithium-polymer battery, with fast charging. In China, the phone has been priced at 699 yuan (around Rs 7,000). The Redmi 4 runs the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with its own MIUI 8 skin on top. The company has added 4G-enabled dual nano-SIM slots in the device.
In terms of connectivity, Redmi 4 will come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, Infrared port, FM Radio, microUSB 2.0, and 3.5-mm headphone jack as connectivity options.

In contrast, The dual-SIM 4G-LTE Xiaomi Redmi 4A, that comes with IR blaster (an infrared tech that can replace remotes of several devices such as TVs, ACs among others), runs on new MIUI 8 with Android Marshmallow at the base.
The phone is available in an all new Rose Gold colour alongside three regular colour variants. In terms of specifications, the Redmi 4A comes with 5-inch HD display, 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 SoC, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, Dual-SIM support, microSD card support (hybrid SIM slot) up to 128GB, and 3120mAh battery. The Xiaomi smartphone has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera unit.
The bigger Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes in three variants -- a 2GB RAM/32GB storage version at Rs 9,999; a 3GB RAM/32GB storage option at Rs 10,999 and a 4GB/64GB storage option at Rs 12,999. All of the variants have the Qualcomm Sanpdragon 625 processor.
The new Redmi Note 4 was expected to come with better camera among other incremental upgrades. The phone was launched in China with a MediaTek deca-core processor.
In both the China and the India editions, the Redmi Note 4,which comes with a dual-SIM setup, houses the latest MIUI 8 running on Marshmallow. It sports a 5.5-inch fHD display. The Chinese variants have a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 coupled with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU as its SoC.
In terms of optics, the Redmi Note 4 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF (phase detection autofocus), an f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash. The 5-megapixel front camera of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 sports an 85-degree wide angle lens. The smartphone supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM card configuration.
Connectivity options include GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, Micro-USB, Infrared, and Glonass. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is expected to be powered by a 4,100mAh battery.
According to Canalys, Xiaomi is now the second biggest smartphone company in India. Xiaomi held on to its number two title for the second consecutive quarter in Q1, 2017 as it was declared the second largest smartphone maker in India in Q4, 2016 as well.
