While most people feel that beaches are best visited during summer, there is a certain charm to visiting beaches during the monsoon. For one, they are not packed with tourists, there is a certain atmosphere and pleasant temperature during the rains, and there are chances you can rent out places for cheap during the off-tourist season.

Here are 5 places that need to be on your travel bucket list:

* Varkala Beach, Kerala

Varkala beach is known for its clear blue waters and long winding stretch of cliffs. There are quaint shops, hotels and lush greenery on either side. There is the Black Beach (which has black sand), Odayam Beach and Edava Beach where you can unwind and enjoy the serenity of nature.

* Vagator Beach, Goa

The picturesque Vagator beach offers glimpses of cloudy skies, swaying palm trees, and the ocean. It is a happening spot with numerous restaurants, pubs and clubs located near it.

* Promenade Beach, Pondicherry

Pondicherry is known for its serene Promenade beach which is frequented by tourists all through the year. In the monsoon, the weather is pleasant and perfect for walking along the beach. If you get tired you can head to the cafes and hotels for some yummy food.

* Velneshwar Beach, Maharashtra

This beach is known to only a few travellers which makes it exclusive. You can enjoy a scenic drive, and then unwind by the beach. Betel nuts is a local speciality as well.

* Gokarna Beach, Karnataka

While Gokarna receives a lot of rainfall, the temperature dips and it becomes a pleasant place to visit. Water activities are not available during the monsoon but you can take a stroll and enjoy the off-season discounts at eateries and hotels.
