The House of Cards teaser is just 24 seconds long, but it contains a crucial piece of information: How the show dealt with the removal of lead actor Kevin Spacey, in the wake of the sexual assault allegations against the actor. The teaser actually puts Frank in the ground — in a literal grave marked “Francis Underwood.” Claire says her goodbyes to Frank, bidding adieu to the corruptible man who was her sparring partner for the last five seasons.
“When they bury me, it won’t be in my backyard,” Claire tells Frank’s grave. “And when they pay their respects, they’ll have to wait in line.”
House of Cards’s final season will follow Claire Underwood as she succeeds her husband Frank Underwood to the presidency. (Twitter)
Spacey exited the show earlier following the publication of multiple sexual assault allegations against him. His exit conveniently coincided with Claire Underwood’s rise to power, which meant the series could focus entirely on Claire — and give Robin the pay parity she’d requested.
House of Cards’ final season will follow Claire as she succeeds her husband to the presidency, moving from first lady to become the nation’s first (fictional) female president.
